Replacement of levers of pushers from outside of an inlet of the right head of the block of cylinders

The technology for removing and installing the pusher arms on the intake side of the right cylinder head is similar to the left head, but has its own characteristics associated with the cylinder block 1-4.

Attention! The bearing caps for the camshafts of cylinders 1-4 and 5-8 must not be interchanged.

Remove right eccentric shaft drive motor, ignition coils for cylinders 1-4, right cylinder head cover, unscrew spark plugs for cylinders 1-4 and remove right intake and exhaust VANOS actuators.

Attention! Rotate the intake camshaft so that when the support bridge is removed, the intermediate levers do not slip off and damage the camshaft.

Rotate the intake camshaft in the direction of rotation so that the cam of cylinder 1 (arrow) was turned horizontally, as shown in Figure 5.137.



The inlet camshaft bearing caps on cylinder bank 1-4 are marked «LE1–LE5» readable from the intake side.

Note. Removal of intermediate levers should be started from the 4th cylinder, for cylinders 1-3 the steps are similar.

Turn the intake camshaft at the hexagon in the direction of rotation so that the cam of the 1st cylinder is in an inclined upper position (arrow), as shown in Figure 5.138. Marking (1) on the hexagon of the intake camshaft is located on top.



Install the right intake and exhaust VANOS actuators, screw in the spark plugs for cylinders 1–4, install the left cylinder head cover, install the ignition coils for cylinders 1–4, install the right eccentric shaft drive motor and assemble the engine.
