Hydraulic compensators — design description

Hydraulic expansion joints N62 are installed directly in the body of the cylinder head. The valves are driven by camshaft cams through hydraulic tappet plungers. The gaps in the valve drive mechanism are selected automatically by hydraulic compensators. The principle of operation of hydraulic lifters is similar to cylindrical hydraulic pushers of the engine «M54». The free travel of the valve drive levers is not more than 0.1 mm. The principal design of the hydraulic compensator is shown in Figure 5.7.



Oil channels are made in the cylinder head to supply hydraulic compensators and other elements with oil.
