For removal and installation of oil seals, it is recommended to use special tools. To access the front oil seal located in the lower timing chain cover, remove the vibration damper. The procedure for gaining access to the rear oil seal is described below.
1. Remove manual transmission or AT (see chapter Manual gearbox and clutch or automatic transmission).
2. Drain the engine oil (see chapter Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
3. Remove the flywheel (see Section Removal and installation of a flywheel).
4. Turn out bolts of fastening of a cover of a back epiploon of a cranked shaft.
When installing, pay attention to the different prescribed tightening torques for the M6 and M8 screws.
5. Carefully pry the gland cover at the base with two screwdrivers and remove it.
6. Remove the gasket and clean the mating surfaces.
7. Check the condition of the centering sleeves and replace if necessary.
8. Install new gasket. Apply a strip to the joints (2 mm wide and 3 mm high) sealant Drei-Bond 1209.
9. The rear oil seal cover is supplied with the oil seal. If necessary, remove the old oil seal from the cover and press in a new oil seal.
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of the dismantling of the components.
