The coolant must be changed on a cold engine.
For more information about the cooling system, see Chapter Engine cooling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
1. Set the temperature control to the position of the heater to the maximum temperature position. Remove the radiator cap.
2. Jack up the front of the car and place it on jack stands. Remove the lower protective cover of the engine compartment and place a container under the radiator to collect the escaping coolant.
3. On M52 and M62 engines Remove the cooling system bleed plug and drain plugs from the left and right sides of the cylinder block.

4. Remove the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator and let the fluid drain completely.
5. Tighten the removed plugs with the required force.
6. Fill a broad tank with a cooling liquid according to requirements of Specifications.
7. Turn out a stopper of an aperture for prorolling of system of cooling and wait, while coolant with bubbles of air will cease to act. Tighten the stopper.
On diesel models, bleeding of the cooling system occurs automatically through the top tube to a separate expansion tank.
8. Install the radiator cap and expansion tank.
9. Correct coolant level and check cooling system for leaks (see Section Checking fluid levels, leak control).
