- 10mm or 12mm hex wrench for filler and drain plugs.
Required consumables:
- Gear oil according to BMW specification, viscosity SAE 75 W90.
- Two aluminum sealing washers size A22x27.
The main gear must be warmed up before changing the oil, for which make a test drive for 15 minutes.
Raise and support the vehicle so that it is level.
Unscrew the filler plug with a hex wrench.
When silent oil comes out of the hole, this means that its level is normal and there are no leaks in the bridge. If the oil does not come out, use your finger to check if the oil level reaches the bottom edge of the hole.
Remove the drain plug and drain the oil into a container.
The drain plug is magnetized to attract metal particles and shavings from the final drive. Wipe the shavings off the cork. Then tighten the drain plug to 50 Nm.
Fill the rear axle with oil using the filling tool.
Oil specification: gear oil with viscosity according to SAE 75W90. In this case, you must use oil certified by the manufacturer.
Attention: Gear oil is thick, so it must be poured in small portions.
Place a container and collect excess oil.
Install the filler plug with a new sealing washer and tighten to 50 Nm.
