Depending on the severity of the impact, the control unit instructs the belt tensioner to deploy or also the airbag to deploy.
A command from the control unit ignites a small charge in the seat belt tensioner. The resulting gases move the piston in the tensioner tube forward; the piston is connected by a rod to the seat belt buckle. The belt buckle is pulled down. This selects the free play and loosening of the seat belt.
A deployed seat belt pretensioner is recognized by the airbag/seat belt pretensioner warning light coming on. When deployed, the seat belt operates as if the pretensioner had not been installed.
The seat belt tensioner is out of service. After operation, it must be replaced as a set.
Attention: To dispose of a broken tensioner, contact a workshop.
Caution: To prevent accidental deployment of the buckle tensioner and airbag, the following precautions must be observed.
The replacement and inspection of the buckle/airbag pretensioner system must be carried out by a workshop. It is not allowed to make even the slightest changes to the design.
If the seat belt pretensioner has been triggered during an accident, it must be replaced with a new one.
Before carrying out work on the tensioner, disconnect the negative wire from the battery. Then the negative contact of the battery must be isolated so that an accidental connection does not occur.
A failed seat belt pretensioner removed from the vehicle must be stored in a closed box for storage.
The seat belt tensioner and control unit are sensitive to shock. If they have been dropped from a height of more than 50 cm, they must not be reinstalled. When carrying out welding work, the clamps of the wires of the welding machine must be located as close as possible to the place of welding. In all cases, the seat belt pretensioner control unit must be disconnected.
The pretensioner/airbag control unit is located under the center console. In order to avoid malfunctions in its operation, it is impossible to place magnetized objects near the block. The seat belt tensioner and its control unit must not be exposed to temperatures above 90°C even for a short time. Damaged or defective parts must not be repaired under any circumstances. Under no circumstances should parts of the airbag/belt tensioner system be opened. Before installation, make sure that the negative wire is disconnected from the battery, and the negative terminal of the battery is insulated. Never remove the tensioner yourself. He is explosive!
System control
The airbag/seat belt pretensioner warning light should come on when the ignition is switched on and go out after 4 seconds.
If the control lamp does not light up when the ignition is switched on, then there is a malfunction in the system.
If the lamp does not come on while driving, there is a malfunction in the airbag system. In this case, please note that the airbag/belt pretensioner system is no longer ready to deploy.
Disabling the seat belt pretensioner
Remove the front seat.
Power seat: Disengage the seat belt tensioner. To do this, turn the lever (1) 90°to the left (place it vertically in relation to the seat surface) and unhook the sheathed cable (2) up from the support and drive arm.
Power seat: Disengage tensioner. To do this, turn the slotted screw (2) so that in the window (3) belt mark changed to red (1 - sheathed cable).
Attention: The system is enabled when the sheathed cable is attached to the seat or the green mark is visible.
