Attention: If the battery is disconnected, the contents of the fault code memories may be erased.
The contents of the fault code memories of some electronic control units may be erased.
The code of a radio that has anti-theft coding is erased. Such radios can be recognized by the message "CDDE", which appears on the display for a couple of seconds immediately after turning on the radio. If the code is not known, then further operation of the radio becomes impossible. The correct code is on the card supplied with the radio, if not, the radio code must be requested from the radio manufacturer.
The radio tuning to transmitting radio stations is erased, as is the clock setting and on-board computer data.
After connecting the battery, the sliding roof panel drive must be reinstalled.
The contents of the memory device of the fault codes of the engine control unit are erased.
Withdrawal
Switch off the ignition.
Open luggage compartment and fold down right side trim.
Remove the plastic insert from the cover.
Disconnect the wires from the battery, first disconnect the ground wire (-) -1- and then the positive pole wire (+) -2-. The positive wire connector is covered with an overlay, it should be removed.
Release hexagon bolt -3- and nut -4-.
Remove retaining clip -5- and battery cover -6-.
Remove plastic spacer -arrow-.
Slide the battery slightly backwards in relation to the vehicle and release it from the holder in front.
Disconnect the ventilation hose at the top front edge of the battery.
Fold up the carrying handle and remove the battery.
Caution: The battery contains toxic substances which must not be disposed of with household waste. Take old batteries to special collection points. The administration of districts and cities should inform about where such points are located.
Note: When buying a new battery, you must return the old battery to the dealer, otherwise you will have to pay a deposit for the new battery.
Installation
Before installing the battery terminals, clean to a shine with a suitable brass wire brush.
Insert the battery so that its poles are facing the wing.
Connect the ventilation hose at the top front edge of the battery.
Push the battery forward as far as it will go. The base of the battery should fit into the holder.
Insert the remote holder.
Attach the battery cover and retaining clip.
Screw the retaining clip.
Connect the positive wire to the positive pole (+), then the ground wire - to the negative pole.
To prevent corrosion, grease both poles with acid-resistant protective grease, eg BOSCH pole grease.
Caution: Do not apply grease between the poles and terminals. Otherwise, especially when starting the engine, large contact resistances occur, leading to overload or failure of the electronic control units.
Cover the positive pole with a patch.
Insert the plastic insert into the side cover and replace the side cover.
Set the time on the clock. Tune the radio to transmitting radio stations.
Install sliding roof panel drive.
If required, enter the anti-theft code into the radio.
