If the seat belt pretensioners have been deployed due to a collision, they must be replaced with new ones (workshop work).
Before carrying out work on the belt tensioners, it is necessary to disconnect the ground wire from the battery. After that, the negative pole of the battery must be insulated to prevent accidental electrical contact.
A failed seat belt pretensioner assembly removed from the seat should be stored in a lockable safe during extended vehicle repairs.
The seat belt pretensioner assembly and control unit are impact sensitive. If they fell from a height of more than 50 cm, then they can no longer be installed on a car.
When carrying out welding work, the electrode clamp of the welding unit must be located directly at the welding site. In any case, it is necessary to disconnect the control unit from the wiring harness.
The airbag/belt tensioner control unit is located under the center console. In order to avoid disturbances in its operation, it is not allowed to put any objects with magnetic properties near it.
The seat belt pretensioner assembly and the control unit must not be exposed to temperatures above 90°C, even for a short time. Damaged or defective parts must not be repaired under any circumstances. The components of the airbag/belt pretensioner system must not be forced open. Before each installation, make sure that the battery ground wire is disconnected and the negative pole is insulated.
Never remove or dispose of the seat belt tensioner yourself. Explosive!
System health monitoring
The air bag / seat belt pretensioner warning light should come on every time the ignition is turned on and go out after 4 seconds.
If the indicator does not light up when the ignition is turned on, then the system is faulty.
If the indicator does not go out or lights up during the trip, then this indicates a malfunction of the system. In doing so, it must be assumed that the airbag/belt pretensioner system may not deploy in the event of a collision.
