1. Carry out washing, preservation and special treatment of the engine, engine compartment, underbody, axles and other units in accordance with the recommendations of the BMW service department. Wash and clean the outside of the car, clean the interior, treat the paintwork and chrome parts with preservative compounds. Clean the rubber seals on the hood, trunk lid and doors and coat with talc or glycerin oil.
2. Warm up the engine and change the oil and oil filter. As an additional measure to protect against corrosion, it is recommended to add anti-corrosion additives to the fuel (according to the manufacturer's instructions). Let the engine run for a while after this.
3. Check coolant level and concentration, correct if necessary.
4. Check the electrolyte level in the battery, add distilled water if necessary.
5. Do not leave liquid in the washer reservoir and lines.
6. Fully fill the fuel tank so that it is not corroded by condensed moisture.
7. Increase the air pressure in the tires to 4 bar.
Immediately before storing the vehicle, dry the parking and service brakes by braking while driving to protect the brake discs and drums from corrosion.
Install the car in a dry and well-ventilated area, engage reverse gear or move the AT control lever to the position "R". Place wheel chocks under the wheels, if necessary. Do not apply the handbrake!
Remove the battery, fully charge it, and store it in a cool but frost-free room. Recharge the battery within 3 months, otherwise it will fail.
The air conditioner should be switched on for a short time at least once a month (especially during the cold season), otherwise there is a risk that the compressor shaft seal will dry out and refrigerant will leak. In this case, the engine must be warmed up to normal operating temperature (the pointer of the coolant temperature gauge should be approximately in the middle of the scale), to avoid moisture condensation and corrosion of the internal surfaces of the engine. If the car is not equipped with air conditioning, it is not necessary to start the engine during storage.
Caution: If you start the engine indoors, make sure there is adequate ventilation, as the exhaust gases are highly toxic.
Resuming vehicle operation
Charge and connect the battery.
It is recommended to contact a BMW workshop for maintenance according to the regulations "Inspektion I".
