The infrared signal receiver is located in the area of the rear-view mirror in the cabin. The operating range of the control panel is about 5 meters, while there should be no shielding obstacles between the remote control and the car.
When you press a button (1) control panel sends up to 5 signals (Light-emitting diode (4) flashes up to five times).
- Actuated central locking (car opening), the anti-theft system is disabled.
- The anti-theft alarm is disabled.
- The interior lighting comes on. When you press a button (2) remote control (LED flashes).
- Actuated central locking (car lock).
If you hold down the button (3) within 15 seconds when the button is pressed (2) (LED flashes):
- The anti-theft system is activated.
- The anti-theft alarm system is activated.
The windows and the power sunroof can be closed using the remote control: hold down the button (2) remote control pressed until completely closed (LED on). If you release the button, the movement of the windows and sunroof will immediately stop.
Remote control with key
To remove or fold the key, press the button.
Of course, you can also use a regular key to unlock the doors and trunk.
Remote control battery replacement
It is time to change the battery when the brightness of the LED decreases while pressing the buttons on the remote control. If the LED does not light up, then you will no longer be able to use the remote control.
Attention: It is advisable to replace the battery in less than 1 minute. Also, do not press any buttons on the remote when replacing the battery. If these conditions are not met, the console will need to be initialized.
Remove the screw to replace the battery (arrow "A"), press the button and slide the cover of the remote control to the side.
Loosen the screw indicated by the arrow "b".
The type of battery and its correct position are indicated on the battery holder.
Caution: Use only the specified type of batteries. Used batteries must be disposed of properly to prevent pollution of the environment.
Remote control initialization
- Turn on the ignition with the spare key (turn the key to position "2" in the ignition).
- Bring the remote control to the initialization block, as shown in the figure.
- Click the button (1) and keep it pressed until the LED starts flashing (about 2 seconds). Initialization completed.
Within 15 minutes, other remotes related to this vehicle can also be initialized (up to four).
During this time, the ignition must not be turned off.
Remote initialization is required when:
- Replacing the battery if you spent more than 1 minute on it or accidentally pressed one of the buttons on the remote control.
- When buying a new remote control.
You can initialize the remote control as often as needed.
Replacing the remote control without changing the key
If the remote control fails, contact a BMW workshop to have the remote control replaced. The key can be removed from the old remote control and installed on the new one. To do this, unscrew the fixing screw and remove the key.
