The engine compartment hood, doors, trunk lid and front fenders are bolted and can be easily replaced. When installing, the gaps must be strictly maintained, otherwise, for example, the door will knock or there will be noise from the oncoming air flow. The gaps between the body elements should be from 4.5 to 6.0 mm. The gap must in any case be parallel, that is, the size of the gap along the entire length of the mating body parts must be the same. The permissible deviation from parallelism is up to 1 mm.
Along with the elements of the body, this section provides a description of the interior equipment, such as seats, lining. Since many of these parts are attached with Torx bolts, it is necessary to have a set of special keys.
Safety measures when performing body work:
- If welding or other work that generates a spark is carried out near the battery, it must be removed.
- Parts of a flooded air conditioning system may not be welded or soldered. This applies to welding and soldering work on the vehicle if there is a risk of heating parts of the air conditioner.
Attention: The refrigerant circuit of the air conditioner must not be opened.
- Body elements, especially subject to corrosion, have a zinc covering. Do not remove the zinc layer before welding (the zinc layer is removed only by hard soldering). At the same time, the welding current should be increased by about 10%.
Caution: When welding galvanized surfaces, poisonous zinc oxide is released, so adequate ventilation must be ensured.
- At the place of repair work, remove the PVC protective coating of the bottom with a rotating wire brush or heat it with a hot hair dryer to a temperature of not more than 180°C and remove the coating with a spatula. When PVC material is burned or heated, hydrochloric acid is released, which contributes to the formation of corrosion, in addition, vapors that are harmful to health are released.
- As part of the repair painting, the car can be heated in a drying chamber or in a heated zone to a temperature not exceeding +80°C. Otherwise, there is a danger of failure of the electronic control units on the car.
