Removal and installation of the water pump
Disconnect the wire from the terminal «—» battery, drain the cooling system.
Remove the radiator. On automatic transmission models with an oil cooler, disconnect the inlet and outlet pipes at the bottom of the cooling system radiator, as well as the wires from the coolant temperature gauge sensor.
Remove the fan and put separately the bolts of its fastening (М6х25 mm), which must be used again, since installing longer bolts will block the viscous coupling of the fan, the drive of which will become permanent.
Remove the drive disc and clutch drum (see photo).
Remove the water pump.
Installation of the water pump is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Water pump disassembly
As with the disassembly of the BMW engine water pump «518», «520», remove the actuator flange, noting its position (paint a mark on the outer end).
Remove the retaining ring, press the impeller and remove the O-ring and protective ring.
Water pump assembly
Install the impeller by placing it on Loctite AVV sealant and keeping the size «B» 0.9±0.2mm shown in photo.
Press on the drive flange keeping the dimension «A» 99.8±0.2mm shown in photo.
