Low mileage, long-term parking and light loads cause brake disc corrosion and brake pad fouling because braking does not develop the minimum pad-to-disc pressure required for self-cleaning disc brakes.
Corroded discs create a characteristic noise effect during the operation of the brake system, which cannot be eliminated even by prolonged braking.
Use only brake pads approved by BMW. Otherwise, the vehicle's approval for operation becomes invalid.
Control Features
In wet weather or in heavy rain, it is advisable to slow down every few kilometers by lightly pressing the pedal briefly. When doing this, make sure that you do not create problems for other road users. The heat generated during braking will dry out the brake discs and pads.
As you know, optimal braking performance is achieved not when the wheels are locked, but when they roll on the verge of blocking. The ABS system provides this mode automatically. In case of its failure, periodic braking should be used whenever possible (refer to Section Features of driving a car).
Driving on long or steep descents of mountain roads will not lead to a loss of brake efficiency if you drive in such a gear or in such a position of the AT selector lever that you need a minimum of braking.
Downshifting (up to the first) transmission or by moving the AT selector lever up to position 1 or 2, you can also increase the braking effect of the engine.
If this is not enough to slow the vehicle down, avoid sustained braking at below average intensity. Instead it's better (following the situation from behind) brake the car by vigorously pressing the pedal and, if necessary, continue braking with short pauses (in periodic mode). During breaks, the brakes will be cooled, which will protect them from overheating and allow you to maintain full braking power.
Never drive with the clutch depressed, with the gearshift lever or AT selector lever in neutral, and even more so with the engine off. In neutral gear, there is no braking effect of the engine, and when the engine is off, the brake booster does not work.
The brake, clutch and accelerator pedals must not be obstructed by floor mats, carpeted floors or other objects.
