When cornering, in particular on tight corners, noise occurs in the area of the outer wheel, this indicates damage to the wheel bearing.
Withdrawal
1. Mark with paint the position of the corresponding front wheel relative to the hub. This will allow the assembly to install the balanced wheel in its original position. Loosen the wheel bolts with the vehicle on the ground. Raise the front of the car, put it on stands and remove the front wheel.
2. Pry with a screwdriver and remove the hub cap. Be sure to replace the cap with a new one. When installed, a used cover does not provide the necessary tightness.
3. Hit the stopper with a chisel (arrow illustration) neck nuts -1-.
4. Attach the front wheel and lower the car onto the wheels.
5. Remove the neck nut.
The nut is tightened with a large torque, so when it is loosened, the car must be with its wheels on the ground. To prevent the wheel from turning when the nut is loosened, ask an assistant to press the brake pedal.
6. Remove the caliper and secure it with wire, refer to Section Removal and installation of the front brake guide.
7. Remove the brake disc, refer to Section Removal and installation of a brake disk of a forward wheel.
8. Disconnect the ABS pulse sensor -1- from the steering knuckle -2-.
9. Remove the hub using a puller and the existing wheel bolts along with the bearings.
Removed node (hub with bearings) The bearing must not be reused.
If the bearing inner race cannot be removed from the steering knuckle, remove the shield and protective cover, and then remove the race with a puller. To remove the shield, unscrew the three M6 screws at the inner diameter with a socket wrench.
Installation
10. If the shield was removed, put it in place with a new cover.
11. Screw the BMW-312110 guide bushing provided in the tool kit over the entire length of the thread of the steering knuckle.
12. Place a new bearing assembly on the knuckle using the BMW-312110 tool. Remove the guide bush.
13. Slightly screw on the new neck nut.
14. Install and secure the ABS pulse sensor.
15. Install the brake disc, refer to Section Removal and installation of a brake disk of a forward wheel.
16. Install the caliper, refer to Section Removal and installation of the front brake guide.
17. Reinstall the front wheel so that the markings made during removal match. Pre-lubricate with a thin layer of bearing grease the centering belt of the wheel disk on the hub. Do not grease wheel bolts. Replace rusty bolts. Wrap bolts.
18. Lower the car on wheels, include transfer, tighten a parking brake. To fix the front wheel, ask an assistant to press the brake pedal.
19. Fasten the neck nut with a torque of 290 Nm and caulk it out. To do this, drive the collar of the nut with a drift into the groove of the fist axis.
Once the nut has been tightened to the specified torque once, the bearing assembly cannot be reused.
20. Lubricate the hub cover with sealant, for example, Loctite 638 and put it in place. The cover must be replaced. If a previously used cover is installed, the tightness cannot be ensured. In this case, the infiltrated water can damage the wheel bearing in a short time.
21. Tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 100 Nm.
