Warm up the engine while driving. When the operating temperature is reached, the oil should have a temperature of about 80 degrees. Check oil level.
The oil pressure switch is located in the oil filter housing (the illustration shows the oil filter of models 316i, 318i). Loosen bolt 020 and remove the oil filter cover so that oil can drain into the engine.
Disconnect electrical cable from oil pressure switch and unscrew oil pressure switch -12-.
Screw a suitable pressure gauge into the oil pressure switch hole.
Screw on the oil filter cap.
Start the engine and leave it to idle. The oil pressure should be around 0.5 bar.
Increase engine speed to 5000-6000 rpm. The oil pressure must be between 4.0 bar (diesel engine: 3.8 bar) and 4.7 bar.
Screw in the pressure switch with a new ring and tighten to 30 Nm.
Screw on the oil filter cap with a tightening torque of 30 Nm.
For deviations from the specified value, see the lubrication system troubleshooting table.
