The K-Jetronic is a mechanical injection device for gasoline engines that continuously injects fuel into the intake pipe ahead of the intake valves.
Fuel is supplied by an electric fuel pump from the fuel tank through the fuel accumulator and fuel filter to the fuel dispenser. The air mass is sucked in by the engine through the intake pipe and measured by the air mass meter. The fuel dispenser delivers the amount of fuel to the cylinders through the appropriate injectors, depending on the measured amount of air. Additional sensing elements and sensors provide the correct fuel dosage in extreme temperature conditions and in exceptional driving situations.
The fuel accumulator ensures the preservation of fuel under pressure and for a long time after the engine is turned off. This prevents fuel evaporation and improves hot engine starting conditions.
The fuel pump relay energizes the fuel pump and energizes the start valve at start-up and while the engine is running. The relay removes power to the fuel pump when the ignition is turned off and when the ignition pulses stop (when the engine is off and the ignition is on).
The start valve injects additional fuel into the intake manifold to help start the engine.
The thermal time switch determines the injection duration of the starting valve.
The pressure regulator maintains a pressure of 4.6-5.0 bar in the system.
An additional electrically heated air damper stabilizes the engine speed during the warm-up phase.
The warm-up regulator enriches the fuel mixture during the warm-up phase.
Caution: When working on the mechanical fuel injection device, be extremely clean. Before removal, the corresponding parts should be cleaned with gasoline. The system is under high pressure. Therefore, before replacing parts, relieve pressure by slowly releasing the fuel pipe at the cold start injector. In this case, it is necessary to put a rag at the junction. Danger of escaping fuel under pressure! Wipe up leaking fuel with a cloth.
